Strain-rate sensitivity, m, as a function of strain, obtained from compression tests performed under applied strain-rates ranging from \(2\times 10^{-4}\) \(s^{-1}\) to \(2\times 10^{-2}\) \(s^{-1}\). Mo pillars with L=1.5 \(\upmu\)m (upper left) show a positive m=0.05, signature of lattice controlled plasticity, while strain-rate sensitivity is absent in the same material for smaller sample sizes (L= 1 \(\upmu\)m; lower left), or for pillars of an Al-Sc alloy, whatever their sizes (right). In each case, the data shown were obtained from an averaging over several samples (5 to 8)
