This collections aims to honor Professor Ghoniem's career contributions and foster the advancements in the mechanics and physics of crystal defects, by bringing together contributions from the international community of modelers and experimentalists in this field, including original research, reviews and commentaries on modern lasting impacts of Professor Ghoniem's career work.

This Special Collection will be centered on multiscale and multiphysics modeling of complex materials, with attention to the constitutive aspects concerning complex materials, so defined by the presence of internal structure at different scales (nano/micro/meso) and non-linear constitutive behavior (plasticity, damage, fracture, etc.).
This Special Collection provides theory-centric, topical reviews for the materials science community. Each contribution is by invitation-only, with the subject and author(s) selected by the JMS: Materials Theory editorial board. This Special Collection will serve as an ever-expanding foundation for the materials science community.
