The dashed lines shows the annihilated parts of the loops. After the initiation of the cross slip, loops continue to merge by interaction between segments AB(s(φ)) and AC (s(φ)). Right: Recombination of segments s(φ) and s(φ) generates a new segment s(φ) with edge orientation which changes the total dislocation density and mean orientation
